Abstract

Hydrocarbons are one of the groups of pollutants present in the abiotic components of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems (soils, surface waters, bottom sediments) both as natural components of various organic compounds and accumulated in them as a result of various types of anthropogenic effects. This makes it difficult to analytically determine and identify them when conducting environmental studies related to determining the background content and assessing the level of environmental pollution by oil products. The paper provides an overview of the approaches used in identifying the composition and origin of petroleum hydrocarbons in the bottom sediments of water bodies, analyzes their transformation in bottom sediments
