Abstract

The article presents the results of a morphometric analysis of specially protected lakes located on the territory of the Pre-Volga region of the Republic of Tatarstan. As a basis for morphometric analysis topographic maps at scale 1:100000 from 1939, large-scale plans at 1:10000 from 1968–1969, high resolution satellite images from 1975–2022, as well as field research data from 2021–2022 were used. The results of the analysis show that among the studied lakes, reservoirs with a water surface area from 1 to 10 hectares, with shallow and very shallow depths and a small volume of water mass dominate. The comparison of cartographic data from the last 85 years has shown that there is a common trend of decreasing the area of the water body for almost all specially protected lakes in the region. The most significant decrease in water surface area has been observed in Lesnoye Lake, losing about 90% of its water area.
