Abstract

The article presents an assessment of water quality and its spatial variability in the sections of the lower reaches of the Kama River, a comparative interpretation of the results obtained using the specific combinatorial pollution index and probabilistic characteristics, and considers the problems that arise in the evaluation of hydrochemical data series. The shortcomings of the method of complex assessment of the degree of pollution of surface waters and ways to solve them are indicated. In situations where the average long-term values ​​of hydrochemical parameters in the studied section (water body) exceed the established MPC, it is necessary to use their background concentrations as the threshold, calculated as the median of the corresponding sample.
